The cause of Christian singer Mandisa's death has been disclosed
On April 18, the Grammy winner and former "American Idol" finalist was discovered deceased in her residence. Her age was 47.
WASHINGTON A medical examiner has verified the cause of death for Christian singer Mandisa, according to numerous media reports.
Known by her stage name Mandisa, Mandisa Lynn Hundley was a well-known Christian musician who launched her career using her notoriety as an "American Idol" participant. In April, she was discovered dead at her Franklin, Tennessee, home.
Mandisa's autopsy revealed that she passed away from complications related to her class III obesity, according to PEOPLE.
The Tennessean was informed by medical examiner Dr. Feng Li that the deceased person's mode of death was listed as natural, and she also confirmed the cause of death.
"A complex chronic disease in which a person has a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher or a BMI of 35 or higher and is experiencing obesity-related health conditions," is how the Cleveland Clinic defines class III obesity.
The Grammy winner "was last known alive approximately three weeks" before her death at home on April 18, according to the autopsy report, according to PEOPLE.
When she was discovered, the police had earlier stated that they did not believe foul play had a role in her demise.
Mandisa gained popularity as a result of her public generosity on "American Idol," when she forgave judge Simon Cowell for his remarks regarding her weight during the competition's early stages.
"I want to let you know that, yes, you did hurt me. I sobbed, and it was really painful. Later in the season, she said to Cowell, "But I want you to know that I've forgiven you and that you don't need someone to apologize to forgive somebody."
She began a career in Christian music after finishing ninth in the season. "True Beauty," her debut album, was released in 2007. "Overcomer," Mandisa's album from 2013, took home the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. "Out of the Dark," her most recent album, was published in 2017.
