Khyree Jackson, a Vikings rookie, Dies in a car accident in Maryland,

Khyree Jackson, a rookie cornerback for the Vikings, sadly died after being involved in an automobile accident in his native Maryland, the organization confirmed on Saturday.

In a statement, the organization promised to help Jackson's family, teammates, and coaches:

"The news of Khyree Jackson's passing after an overnight vehicle accident breaks our hearts. The Minnesota Vikings have communicated with Khyree's family and extended our support while we continue to gather additional details. We have also informed the Vikings staff, coaches, and players of the news, and we have provided counseling to individuals who require emotional support. Our sympathies go out to Khyree's friends, teammates, coaches, and family, as well as to all the other victims of this terrible incident."

In the 2024 NFL Draft, Minnesota chose Jackson, 24, with the 108th overall pick. His charisma was evident right away in a video interview with Twin Cities media representatives.

He visited several colleges along the way to the NFL, first Oregon and then Alabama. He was eager to play at the highest level of football and realize his ambition.

Standing 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 194 pounds, Jackson was tall and lean, and he made instant friends with players, coaches, and staff members during Vikings rookie minicamp and the team's offseason program by smiling broadly and amiably.

This news has "absolutely crushed" Vikings Head Coach Kevin O'Connell.

"Khyree's infectious energy spread across our staff and facility. His teammates were drawn to him right away by his self-assurance and gregarious demeanor, O'Connell continued. "It was clear throughout our little time together that Khyree would excel as a professional football player, but even more remarkable was his drive to improve himself for his family and everyone around him. I don't know what to say. My thoughts and prayers are with Khyree's friends, family, teammates, and coaches."

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, general manager of the Vikings, expressed his grief over Khyree's passing.

"As we got to know him throughout the pre-draft process, it was clear the goals Khyree wanted to accomplish both professionally and personally," said Adofo-Mensah. "His narrative exemplified perseverance. He was making efforts to improve himself not only for himself but also for people who held him in high regard.

"Every space Khyree entered was captivated by his personality. Adofo-Mensah continued, "I'm devastated that his life and everything he had in front of him has been cut short. "My thoughts are with Khyree's family and friends, those who played with and coached him in college, and his teammates and coaches here at the Vikings."

Jackson felt homesick and the dream had seemed so far away after he left Arizona Western Community College. He went back to Maryland and started working at a grocery store deli, where he was recognized as employee of the month. At Fort Scott Community College and then East Mississippi Community College, when the 2020 season was canceled, Jackson gave football another shot.

After that, Jackson moved to Alabama, where he played for two seasons (2021–2022) alongside Will Reichard and Dallas Turner, two other round picks.

Jackson excelled at Oregon last fall, earning an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl and recognition as an All-Pac-12 selection from the conference's coaches and The Associated Press.

The news has "deeply saddened" Vikings owners Mark and Zygi Wilf.

"As a player, Khyree had a very bright career ahead of him, and it was evident that he was committed to becoming a wonderful person who improved the lives of others. Following this heartbreaking tragedy, we are thinking about Khyree's family, friends, and all Minnesota Vikings players."

On Saturday, the Maryland State Police declared that they are looking into the crash that claimed the lives of Isaiah Hazel, Anthony Lytton, Jr., and Jackson.

At Upper Marlboro, Maryland's Dr. Henry A. Wise, Jr. High School, Hazel, Jackson, and Lytton were teammates.

The three victims were inside a maroon Dodge Charger, according to a press statement from the Maryland State Police. Lytton was in the back seat, Jackson was in the front passenger seat, and Hazel was the driver.

According to the announcement, three cars were involved in the collision when troopers arrived on the scene after three in the morning on Saturday. A preliminary examination indicates that the Charger went off the road after being hit by a silver Infinity Q50. Then a silver Chevrolet Impala was struck by the Infinity Q50.

According to the press release, there were no injuries reported by the occupants of the Chevrolet Impala or Infinity Q50.

The inquiry is being handled by the Crash Team of the Maryland State Police.
